ATHLETE OF THE MONTH- OCTOBER 2017

Congratulations to Brent Miller, ALL IN’s October 2017 Athlete of the Month!

Tell us about yourself:

I am 46-years-old, and I grew up in Montgomery. Growing up I played football and baseball. I graduated from Jeff Davis High School where I was a center on the football team. During my senior year, I was on our high school powerlifting team. I graduated from the University of Alabama in 1993 with a degree in Marketing. I am a REALTOR with Keller Williams Realty. My wife is Keri Miller and we have been married for 22 years. I have a son, Brooks, who is a senior and my daughter, Mary Helen, is a freshman. Both attend Lee-Scott Academy.

What is something interesting about you we would be surprised to know?

I’m a pretty simple guy, but something that not everyone knows is that 3 years ago while duck hunting I was shot in the face, right between the eyes, with steel shot.

How long have you been coming to ALL IN CrossFit?

I started in August 2014 in a CrossFit 101 class.

What made you start CrossFit?

I needed to workout and was wanting to go to a gym where I would enjoy the atmosphere, and I would be held accountable by the coaches and workout partners. I knew Lauryn Smith and she had tried to get me to go visit her friend that was doing CrossFit in her garage. I never did go, but I kept thinking about it and finally decided this was worth a shot.

What do you enjoy most about CrossFit?

I love the community that we have in our box. Everyone is there for the same reason- to make themselves better through exercise and fellowship.

What is your favorite and your least favorite CrossFit movement or workout?

My favorite movement is a tie between the front squat and the deadlift. My least favorite is the burpee.

What is your proudest CrossFit moment?

I am proud of the PRs and the gains I continue to make, but my proudest moment would have to be walking through the door the first night of CrossFit 101. Changed my life forever, for the better.

What are your future CrossFit goals?

What I want out of CrossFit for the future is to continue to become better than I was yesterday. I want to be 60 or 65 and still lifting weights and getting through a WOD with that sense of accomplishment.

What impact has ALL IN had on your life in and out of the gym?

I never thought that I would find the friendship of so many different people as I have at ALL IN. I have grown very close to folks. I love having a friend pull you to the side and ask you what is wrong because they see it in your face. I love ALL IN. I am so appreciative to Chris and Shelby and all of the other coaches for investing in me to make me a better person.

What is your favorite quote or words to live by?

I am a huge fan of Teddy Roosevelt and one of my favorite quotes is, “Believe you can and you are halfway there.”
