ATHLETE OF THE MONTH- May 2018
June 28, 2018
Congratulations to Rachel Forbus, ALL IN’s June 2018 Athlete of the Month!
Tell us about yourself:
I am 40-years-old, 41 in August! I grew up in a small town located outside of Corpus Christi, Texas called Sinton, and I have always been into sports. I played volleyball, basketball, tennis and track in school as well as gymnastics for several years. I work for the College of Veterinary Medicine at Auburn University, and I am married to Andy Forbus. We have a blended family of 4 children: Hannah (20), Lauren (17), Hunter (16), Hope (13).
What is something interesting about you we would be surprised to know?
I have a degree in Wildlife Biology….no really, the biggest surprise to most is I am a GRANDMOTHER!
How long have you been coming to ALL IN CrossFit?
I have been coming to ALL IN CrossFit for 8 months.
What made you start CrossFit?
I have been completely obsessed with CrossFit for several years now. I follow the athletes, watch all the YouTube videos, etc. but was always thinking I was not fit enough to even step foot in the CrossFit gym. After having hip surgery in 2017, I decided I needed to do something different. I was a gym rat, but I felt like I was just stuck in a routine that was not producing any results and was certainly boring! So I looked up the all the CrossFit gyms in Auburn and felt that ALL IN had the best introductory class, and here I am 8 months later!
What do you enjoy most about CrossFit?
The community!!! I love the fact that we are from different backgrounds, have different fitness goals, have different fitness levels, but we all are there supporting and encouraging each other. Not to mention we all like to go eat together afterwards!!
What is your favorite and your least favorite CrossFit movement or workout?
That’s easy….deadlifts are my favorite. My least favorite would have to be BURPEES!!
What is your proudest CrossFit moment?
Honestly, I have been told by several people that I couldn’t or shouldn’t be doing CrossFit due to having hip dysplasia and already having to have hip surgery. I couldn’t even do an air squat without holding onto the rig 8 months ago. Deadlifting 205 lbs. about a month ago was a HUGE moment for me.
What are your future CrossFit goals?
Short term would be strict pull ups and better front rack positioning (faster elbows!). Long term….masters competitor at the CrossFit Games! Gotta dream big, right!?
What impact has ALL IN CrossFit had on your life in and out of the gym?
Going to the gym is no longer a chore or a box to check off for the day. I look forward to going- not just for the workout but for the camaraderie. I’ve become part of a community, a movement really, and not just a gym. ALL IN has made getting stronger more important to me than having the ideal body.
What is your favorite quote or words to live by?
“The most difficult thing is the decision to act, the rest is merely tenacity. The fears are paper tigers. You can do anything you decide to do. You can act to change and control your life; and the procedure, the process is its own reward.” – Amelia Earhar
