UNSCARED

The number one comment I hear from people who are thinking about starting CrossFit is: “I’m scared.” I get it. The unknown can be scary. I still remember the butterflies I had in my stomach when I started CrossFit as I drove up to the gym wondering what the workout would be that day. Sometimes I still get them! A CrossFit gym can be an intimidating place.

I think the perception of a CrossFit gym is that it is full of elite athletes who throw massive amounts of weight over head and who make pull-ups look like a breeze. In truth, there are all kinds of athletes in a CrossFit gym. Some are there with hopes of competing one day, and some are just hoping to improve their level of fitness. What is so great is that both types are appreciated and celebrated in a CrossFit gym. Nothing is more thrilling and causes more high-fives then when a novice athlete gets a new personal record or makes it through a challenging workout. I love that about this sport.

One of my goals as a coach is to make sure you feel successful after your workout. I never want anyone to leave my gym feeling like he has failed. What it takes to make you feel successful may be different than what it takes for someone else. My job is to ensure that you are performing at the right level for YOU. I want to take you right outside your comfort zone, but I have no desire in pressuring you to take on more than you are able and watching you suffer through a workout. I want you to leave feeling good about yourself.

If you are reading this and have been curious about CrossFit, give it a try. You will never find yourself surrounded by more upbeat, positive people not only in your coaches but also your fellow athletes. I love this quote: “CrossFit will change your life… if you let it.” Put that fear aside and be UNSCARED.
