Last year, ALL IN CrossFit conducted its first five-week in-house team competition to coincide with the CrossFit Games Open. To say that the ALL IN Open was a success would be an understatement. We had over 60 people sign-up, do things they never thought possible, and enjoy some good old ALL IN fun.
For those who are new, the CrossFit Games Open is a worldwide online competition, open to ANYONE, and is the first step on the road to the CrossFit Games. Last year, more than 209,000 athletes participated in the CrossFit Games Open. Most of us do not participate with hopes of making it to the Games. We do so to challenge ourselves, to test our fitness, and to experience the thrill of competition.
The CrossFit Games Open is a 5-week competition beginning on Thursday, February 26th when CrossFit releases the first workout. Athletes will have until the following Monday to complete the workout and to submit their score online. This year, CrossFit will be releasing two workouts- a “RX” workout and a “scaled” workout. Athletes must do the workout as prescribed by CrossFit for either division. A new workout will be released every Thursday the following four weeks. Only those who do all of the workouts RX will have a chance to make it to the next round of competition.
We created the ALL IN Open in order to encourage participation in the CrossFit Games Open by our members. We think competition brings out the best in people, creates camaraderie, and inspires others. We wanted to create an environment for our members- no matter the fitness level- in which they feel comfortable taking on the Open.
We’ve made some changes to the ALL IN Open this year so here’s how it will work:
ALL IN members need to sign-up at the front desk to participate in the ALL IN Open by Monday, February 16th. The cost is $15.00 and includes a team t-shirt. Be sure to write down your t-shirt size.
Based on the number of members who sign-up, we will create 2 to 4 teams. Teams will have captains, and team members will need to come up with a name for their team.
Teams will earn points as follows:
+5: We are not requiring members to sign-up for the CrossFit Games Open online this year, but we will give 5 points to every person who does sign-up for it. The cost is $20.00 and allows you to see how you compare with the world. You can go here to register:

+5 point: There is a judges’ course that you can take for the CrossFit Games Open to learn about movement standards and what counts as a good rep or not. Participants in the ALL IN Open will have their workouts judged. We will give 5 points to every person who completes the judges’ course and turns in a certificate of completion. The cost is $10.00. You can go here to take the course:

+3: Every member of a team that completes an RX workout and submits a completed scoresheet each week will earn 3 points.
+2: Every member of a team that completes a scaled workout and submits a completed scoresheet each week will earn 2 points.
+1: Depending on the workout, we may “super scale” a workout for our members. This will be determined on a week-by-week basis. Every member of a team that completes a super scaled workout and submits a completed scoresheet each week will earn 1 point.
+1: The top three male and female athletes for each workout in each division (RX, scaled, and super scaled) will earn 1 point for their team.
+1: 1 point will be awarded to a team who has a member willing to do the Open workout in a head-to-head format on Thursday night following the workout announcement.
+2: One athlete each week will be designated “Spirit of the Open” and will earn 2 points for his team. This athlete will not necessarily be the athlete with the best score but will be someone who persevered in a workout.
Teams are invited to come to the gym on Thursday nights at 7 pm for the live announcement of the CrossFit Games Open workout. We hope to have athletes from each team go head-to-head immediately following the announcement so come cheer them on.
Workouts will be performed on Fridays during regular class times whether you are signed up for the ALL IN Open or not so you might as well sign-up. You’ll get a t-shirt!
If you would like to repeat a workout or cannot be there on a Friday, we will announce a time on Saturdays or Sundays for you to do so.
All score sheets must be submitted by Monday at 5 p.m. in order to earn points.
At the end of the 5 weeks, the winning team for the ALL IN Open will be announced.
The ALL IN Open is not about being the best athlete in the gym. It is about being YOUR best. It is about building community within our gym. It is about challenging yourself and getting out of your comfort zone.
